| In most cases, the default and recommended method for making changes or corrections to an accepted ACE eManifest is to use eManifest Sync. eManifest Sync is enabled by default and is designed to automatically handle supported updates with CBP after changes are made in BorderConnect. The legacy send options in this guide should only be used if Sync is disabled or when specifically instructed by BorderConnect support. For the standard recommended workflow, see Making Changes or Corrections to an Accepted ACE eManifest Using eManifest Sync. |
This guide explains how to update or correct an ACE eManifest that has already been submitted and is on file with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). While eManifest Sync can be turned off in the Company Settings page, or disabled on a specific manifest by clicking the three dots at the top right of the manifest details page, this is only recommended in rare cases. The legacy send functions described in this guide should only be used if Sync is disabled or when specifically instructed by BorderConnect support.
Overview

This guide assumes the ACE eManifest has already been submitted and is on file with CBP. The correct procedure depends on what part of the manifest needs to be changed.
With eManifest Sync enabled, many changes made in BorderConnect are automatically synced with CBP. If Sync is disabled, or if the user is using the legacy send options, the user may need to manually amend, cancel, or resend the manifest after making changes.
Initial Step: For all types of changes, first open the manifest by using the ACE Manifest Search Page and clicking View.
eManifest Sync
eManifest Sync is the recommended method for sending and updating ACE eManifests in BorderConnect. When Sync is enabled, BorderConnect is designed to keep the ACE eManifest in sync with CBP after supported changes are made.
Users should normally leave Sync enabled unless there is a specific reason to disable it. If Sync has been disabled for the company or for a specific manifest, the user may need to use the legacy send options described below.
For the default workflow, see Making Changes or Corrections to an Accepted ACE eManifest Using eManifest Sync.
Amendments
Most changes to a submitted ACE eManifest can be processed using an amendment. This includes many changes to trip, equipment, driver, passenger, seal, IIT, shipper, consignee, commodity, and shipment type information.
The main exceptions are:
- changing the trip number;
- changing the date portion of the ETA;
- changing a shipment control number;
- adding a shipment; or
- removing a shipment.
Those changes normally require the manifest to be cancelled and resubmitted, as described in the Cancelling and Resubmitting section.
1 Make the Change in BorderConnect
If more than one change is needed, complete all changes in BorderConnect before transmitting the amendment to CBP.
| Information to change | How to change it |
|---|---|
| Port of Arrival or ETA | Use the Edit button near the top left of the page. ETA time changes can normally be amended, but changing the date portion of the ETA requires cancelling and resubmitting. |
| Truck, Trailer, Drivers, or Passengers | Use the Remove link to remove existing items from the manifest. Use Quick Assign Truck, Quick Assign Trailer, Quick Assign Driver, or Assign Passenger to add replacements. |
| Seal Numbers | Click the View link on the trailer or truck, depending on where the seals are located. Add, remove, or edit the seals, then use Back to ACE eManifest when finished. |
| IIT Status | Mouse over the Set IIT Status button on the truck or trailer and select the applicable exemption. To remove one, click Remove IIT Status on the truck or trailer. |
| Shipper, Consignee, or Commodity | Click the View link for the shipment. Use Remove from Shipment to remove a shipper or consignee, then assign or quick assign the correct party. Use Edit to correct an existing party or commodity, or click Create Commodity to add another commodity. |
| Shipment Type | Click the View link for the shipment, then use the Edit button inside the shipment. Change the shipment type, click Save, then use Back to ACE eManifest to return to the manifest details page. |
2 Transmit the Changes to CBP
After the changes have been made in BorderConnect, CBP must receive an amendment before the changes are reflected in CBP's system. Under Send to CBP, select Amend Completed eManifest.

If eManifest Sync is enabled, the amendment may be handled automatically depending on the type of change. If Sync is disabled, use the manual amendment option.
3 Verify Acceptance
After the amendment is sent, the manifest status will update to Transmitted to CBP. When CBP accepts the amendment, the status will return to Complete Manifest On File with CBP or Complete Manifest and Entry Numbers On File with CBP.
The accepted response can also be confirmed in the ACE eManifest History section. Users should always verify the accepted response before assuming the update is complete.
Cancelling and Resubmitting
Some changes cannot be handled as a regular amendment. To change the trip number, change the date portion of the ETA, change a shipment control number, add a shipment, or remove a shipment, the manifest normally needs to be cancelled and resubmitted.
The manifest does not need to be re-entered in BorderConnect. Cancelling removes the manifest from CBP's system, then the user can make the required changes in BorderConnect and resend the corrected manifest.
Important: The changes in this section can only be made prior to the driver's arrival at the border.
1 Cancel the Manifest with CBP
Cancel the manifest before changing the trip number or date. This ensures CBP can identify the original manifest being cancelled.
Under Send to CBP, select Cancel Completed eManifest.
2 Confirm Cancel Acceptance
When CBP accepts the cancellation, the manifest status will change to Cancelled Manifest. An accepted cancellation response will also appear in the ACE eManifest History.
Do not make and resend the corrected manifest until the cancellation has been accepted.
3 Make the Changes in BorderConnect
After the cancellation has been accepted, make the required changes.
| Change needed | How to make the change |
|---|---|
| Trip number or ETA date | Use the Edit button near the top left of the page. Make the change, then click Save to return to the manifest details page. |
| Shipment control number | Click the View link for the shipment, then use the Edit button inside the shipment. Change the shipment control number, click Save, then use Back to ACE eManifest. |
| Add a shipment | Click Create New Shipment under the driver section. Complete the shipment information, save it, and return to the ACE eManifest. |
| Remove a shipment | Click the Detach link on the shipment. Detach the shipment if it should be used on another manifest, or remove it from the manifest if it should no longer be included. |
4 Resend the Manifest to CBP
After the changes have been completed, resend the corrected manifest to CBP. Under Send to CBP, select Send Complete eManifest.
If eManifest Sync is enabled, use the current Sync workflow unless BorderConnect support instructs otherwise.
5 Verify Acceptance
After resubmitting, confirm that the manifest status updates to Complete Manifest On File with CBP or Complete Manifest and Entry Numbers On File with CBP.
The accepted response should also appear under ACE eManifest History. The driver should not proceed to the border until the corrected manifest has been accepted and the trip information is accurate.

Best Practices
- Keep eManifest Sync enabled unless BorderConnect support instructs otherwise.
- Use Making Changes or Corrections to an Accepted ACE eManifest Using eManifest Sync as the default recommended workflow for most accepted ACE eManifest corrections.
- Review all required changes before sending an amendment so multiple corrections can be transmitted together.
- Do not change the trip number or ETA date before cancelling the original manifest with CBP.
- Always wait for CBP acceptance after an amendment, cancellation, or resubmission.
- Check ACE eManifest History to confirm that the expected response was received.
- Make corrections before the driver arrives at the border whenever possible.
- If the driver has already arrived or the manifest status is unclear, contact BorderConnect support before making major changes.
