E-Manifest Sync Feature (ACE and ACI eManifest)
|
🔖 This article is part of the BorderConnect Software User Guide |
This guide explains how to use the eManifest Sync Feature in BorderConnect. eManifest Sync simplifies communication with customs by allowing users to make changes directly to an ACE or ACI eManifest and then synchronize those changes with CBP or CBSA using a single action.

This page assumes you already have an active BorderConnect account. If you are not yet set up, please contact BorderConnect for assistance.
What is eManifest Sync?
The eManifest Sync Feature is designed to manage the complex messaging required when submitting, updating, or cancelling eManifests with customs authorities.
Before eManifest Sync:
- Users needed to manually select the correct customs message.
- Separate actions were required for updates such as:
* Changing a truck or driver * Editing a trip number * Adding or removing shipments * Cancelling a manifest
With eManifest Sync:
- Users can freely edit an ACE or ACI eManifest.
- BorderConnect automatically determines the correct message(s) required.
- A single Sync with CBP or Sync with CBSA action updates customs.
|
🔖 eManifest Sync is available for both ACE (CBP) and ACI (CBSA) eManifests. |
When should I use eManifest Sync?
You should use eManifest Sync in any of the following situations:
| Scenario | Action Required |
|---|---|
| Sending a new ACE or ACI eManifest | Click Sync with CBP or Sync with CBSA |
| Editing an eManifest that is already on file | Make changes, then sync again |
| Adding or removing shipments | Save changes, then sync |
| Changing driver, truck, trailer, or trip number | Save changes, then sync |
| Cancelling an eManifest | Use Cancel eManifest (sync handled automatically) |
Syncing a new eManifest
After completing an ACE or ACI eManifest and reviewing the details:
- Open the eManifest Details page.
- Click Sync with CBP (for ACE) or Sync with CBSA (for ACI) at the top of the page.
- BorderConnect transmits the required message to customs.
Once transmitted:
- The manifest status typically changes to Transmitted (two yellow bars).
- A sync status panel appears at the top of the page showing:
* That sync is in progress * The type of message being sent * An estimated time remaining
Successful sync and “On File” status
When customs accepts the transmission:
- The manifest status typically updates to On File (three blue bars).
- The eManifest Sync panel displays:
* A check mark * A message such as Synced with CBP or Synced with CBSA
At this point, the eManifest is considered on file with customs.
Cancelling an eManifest
If an eManifest needs to be cancelled:
- Click Cancel eManifest from the eManifest Details page.
- BorderConnect automatically sends the appropriate cancellation message.
- The manifest will briefly return to a transmitted state, followed by a cancelled status.
|
🔖 Cancelled manifests are removed from customs systems once the cancellation is accepted. |
Using eManifest Sync to make changes
If you edit an eManifest that is already on file:
- Make the required changes (for example: driver, vehicle, trip number, or shipments).
- Save your changes.
- The eManifest Sync panel reappears with a notice such as:
Sync with CBP is required or Sync with CBSA is required.
- A summary of detected changes is displayed.
- Click Sync with CBP or Sync with CBSA to transmit the updates.
BorderConnect then sends the appropriate update message(s) to customs automatically.
Identifying manifests that require sync
You don’t need to open each manifest individually to see if action is required.
On the eManifest Listing page:
- Manifests requiring sync are clearly flagged.
- This helps dispatchers quickly identify which trips still need to be updated.
Viewing transmitted messages (Trip Action Plan)
For full transparency, BorderConnect records all messaging activity.
To view details:
- Open the eManifest Details page.
- Scroll to the bottom.
- Review the Trip Action Plan / Changelog History.
This section shows:
- What messages were sent
- When they were sent
- Responses received from CBP or CBSA
|
🔖 The Trip Action Plan is useful for audits, troubleshooting, and confirming compliance actions. |
Best practices
- Always review changes before syncing.
- Sync as soon as you become aware of a required correction.
- Remember that updating an eManifest does not restart regulatory timing clocks unless the manifest is cancelled and re-submitted.
- Use the listing page indicators to avoid missed sync requirements.
Summary
eManifest Sync:
- Reduces manual message selection
- Prevents incorrect customs transmissions
- Makes updating ACE and ACI eManifests faster and safer
- Provides clear visibility into sync status and messaging history
