An Insurance Policy in BorderConnect stores trucking insurance coverage details that can be assigned to trucks in your fleet when filing ACE eManifests.

How to create and manage insurance policies in BorderConnect
Add Insurance Policy page in BorderConnect

Insurance policies are primarily required when transporting hazardous materials into the United States. When a truck carries hazardous goods, CBP requires valid insurance information to be included as part of the manifest submission.

When Insurance Policies Are Required

Scenario Is Insurance Policy Required
Standard non hazardous shipment No
Hazardous materials shipment Yes
ACE Manifest with hazmat commodities Yes

Once entered, insurance policies become selectable on truck profiles and can be quickly applied during manifest creation.

Accessing Insurance Policies

To manage insurance policies:

  1. Click Manage Data in the top menu
  2. Under the ACE Data section, select Insurance Policies

This opens the Insurance Policies List page where all existing policies are displayed.

Creating a New Insurance Policy

Click New Insurance Policy to open the policy creation page.

Each field represents required CBP insurance data.

Field Description
Insurance Company Name Full legal name of the insurance provider
Policy Number Complete policy identification number
Issue Date Date the policy was issued (mm/dd/yyyy)
Policy Amount Total coverage amount for the policy

After entering all fields, click Save to add the policy to your account.

Insurance Policies List Page

This page displays all insurance policies saved in your BorderConnect account.

Policies listed here will automatically appear in the Insurance Policy dropdown on truck profiles.

Available Actions

Action What It Does
New Insurance Policy Adds a new policy to the account
Edit Updates an existing policy
Delete Removes a policy and unassigns it from any trucks

Deleting a policy will automatically remove it from any trucks where it was previously assigned.

Assigning Insurance Policies to Trucks

Once created, insurance policies can be selected directly on truck profiles.

This allows BorderConnect to include the correct insurance information automatically when hazardous shipments are transmitted to CBP.

Best Practices

Tip Why It Helps
Keep policies up to date Ensures CBP compliance
Use full legal insurer names Avoids manifest rejects
Verify policy numbers carefully Prevents hazmat filing issues
Remove expired policies Keeps truck profiles clean
