Export Container Page (U.S. In-Bond Manager)

The Export Container Page in BorderConnect’s U.S. In-Bond Manager allows carriers to electronically report the export of a specific container on an in-bond shipment to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

This option is used when only part of an in-bond shipment is exporting, particularly when multiple containers are associated with a single in-bond and each container moves separately.
The export form can be opened in two ways:
- From the main menu: U.S. In-Bonds → Export Container
- From an in-bond report: Select Export Container in the Bills of Lading section
Launching the form from the in-bond report automatically fills in key shipment details, reducing manual entry and errors.
For complete workflows covering arrivals, exports, and partial movements, see the Reporting In-Bond Arrivals and Exports Guide.
When to Use Export by Container
| Scenario | Recommended Action |
|---|---|
| Multiple containers on one in-bond | Export by Container Number |
| One container only | Export Entire In-Bond |
| Partial shipment leaves at different times | Export each container separately |
Completing an Export by Container
All standard export information remains the same as a full in-bond export, with two additional shipment identifiers.
Key Fields
- In-Bond Entry Number
- The CBP in-bond reference number. Must be nine numeric digits with no spaces or special characters. Automatically filled when launched from the in-bond report.
- In-Bond Export Date
- The date the container physically left the United States or was delivered to a location where export was assured.
- In-Bond Export Time
- The time the container was exported or transferred for export.
- Master Bill of Lading
- The bill of lading associated with the selected container.
- Container Number
- The specific container being exported from the in-bond.
Submitting the Export
- Confirm the correct container number is entered
- Review export date and time carefully
- Click Send In-Bond Export Message to CBP
- Status updates to Transmitted
- CBP typically responds within one to two minutes
- Confirmation appears in the in-bond history timeline
Important Compliance Notes
- Export must be reported within two business days
- Only export containers that have physically departed the U.S.
- Use full in-bond export when all containers leave together
- Monitor CBP response status for confirmation
Comparison of Export Methods
| Method | Best Use |
|---|---|
| Export Entire In-Bond | One shipment or full load |
| Export by Bill of Lading | Multiple shipment segments |
| Export by Container | Container level movements |
Summary
Exporting by container provides precise control when shipments leave the United States in stages. Using the in-bond report to launch exports improves accuracy and speeds CBP processing.
