Export Bill of Lading Page
Report the export of specific bills of lading within a U.S. In-Bond shipment.
Overview
The Export Bill of Lading Page in BorderConnect’s U.S. In-Bond Manager allows carriers to electronically report the export of a portion of an in-bond shipment to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
This method is used when only part of an in-bond shipment is leaving the United States, typically when an in-bond contains multiple bills of lading and each shipment segment exports separately.
How to Access:
- From Menu: Navigate to U.S. In-Bonds and select Export Bill of Lading.
- From Report: Open an In-Bond Report and select Export Bill of Lading in the Bills of Lading section. (Recommended: This auto-fills shipment information).
When to Use Export by Bill of Lading
Choosing the correct export method ensures accurate compliance reporting.
| Scenario | Recommended Action |
|---|---|
| Multiple bills of lading on one in-bond | Use Export by Bill of Lading to close them individually. |
| Partial freight leaves at different times | Use Export by Bill of Lading for each segment. |
| Single shipment on the in-bond | Use Export Entire In-Bond for efficiency. |
Completing the Export
All standard export fields remain the same as a full in-bond export, with one additional identifier for the shipment segment being exported.
| Field | Description & Requirements |
|---|---|
| In-Bond Entry Number | The CBP in-bond reference number (9 numeric digits). Auto-filled when launched from the report. |
| In-Bond Export Date | The date the freight physically left the U.S. or was delivered to a location where export was assured. |
| In-Bond Export Time | The time the shipment was exported or transferred for export. |
| Master Bill of Lading | The specific bill of lading number representing the portion of the in-bond being exported. |
Submission & Compliance
Submitting the Export
1. Confirm the correct bill of lading is selected. 2. Review the export date and time carefully. 3. Click Send In-Bond Export Message to CBP. 4. The status updates to Transmitted. 5. CBP typically responds within 1–2 minutes, and acceptance appears in the history timeline.
Compliance Notes
- Timing: Export must be reported within two business days of the physical crossing.
- Accuracy: Only export shipment segments that have physically left the U.S.
- Monitoring: Always monitor the report history to ensure CBP has accepted the export message.
