Send In-Bond Status Query

Request real-time status updates directly from CBP for any in-bond shipment.

Overview

Selecting Send In-Bond Status Query

The Send In-Bond Status Query feature in BorderConnect’s U.S. In-Bond Manager allows users to request real-time status information directly from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for a specific in-bond shipment.

This is the primary method for bringing existing in-bonds (even those created by other brokers) into BorderConnect for monitoring and management.

Why Use It?

  • Track Third-Party Bonds: Monitor bonds created by other brokers.
  • Before Arrival/Export: Confirm current status before reporting arrival or export.
  • Auto-Close (ACI): Link U.S. In-Bonds to Canadian manifests for automatic closure.

How to Send a Query

You can initiate a status query from multiple locations in the system:

  • Menu: Select U.S. In-Bonds -> Send In-Bond Status Query.
  • Dashboard: Click the Find New In-Bond button on the In-Bond Dashboard.
  • In-Bond Report: Click Send In-Bond Status Query from inside an existing report details page.
Entering the In-Bond Entry Number

Completing the Request

Field Instructions
In-Bond Entry Number Enter the full 9-digit number exactly as shown on the CBP Form 7512.
  • Numeric only.
  • No spaces, dashes, or special characters.

Click Send In-Bond Status Query to CBP to transmit.

What Happens Next?

After submission:

1. The query is transmitted to CBP. 2. You are returned to the In-Bond Dashboard. 3. A new In-Bond Report is created (or updated) at the top of the list. 4. The initial status will show Transmitted.

CBP Response: Typically arrives within 1–2 minutes. Once received, the report populates with the official status (e.g., Enroute, Arrived), destination port, quantities, and history.

Other Query Methods

From an Existing Report

Refreshing status from details page

If you already have an in-bond report open, clicking Send In-Bond Status Query will auto-fill the entry number. This is the best way to refresh "stale" data before taking action.

From Search Page

Querying from Search Page

You can also query via the Search In-Bond Status Queries Page. This page also supports querying by Bill of Lading or Air Waybill.

Best Practices

Best Practice Benefit
Always query before arriving/exporting Ensures you are acting on the most current CBP data, preventing "Status Not Found" errors.
Query third-party bonds Allows you to take control of bonds filed by other brokers without needing their login.
Re-query stale bonds If a bond has been sitting for weeks, query it to see if CBP has closed it administratively or if it went to General Order.
