Modifying and Cancelling ACE Manifests

A guide to updating, correcting, and moving shipments on accepted ACE eManifests using the Sync feature.

Overview

This guide explains how to update, correct, cancel, and move shipments on an accepted ACE eManifest using BorderConnect. All updates are transmitted using the eManifest Sync feature.

The "Sync" button is context-aware: it automatically determines whether to send a simple amendment or if the changes are significant enough (like changing a Trip Number) to require a cancel and resubmit.

Before You Start: Always locate your manifest using the ACE Manifest Search Page and click View to ensure you are editing the correct trip.

Quick Guide: What Sync Handles

You generally do not need to manually cancel a manifest to make changes. The Sync feature handles the heavy lifting.

Making Changes to an Accepted Manifest

Most updates follow this standard workflow:

1 Edit the Data

Make the required edits directly on the ACE eManifest in BorderConnect. This could be changing a driver, fixing a weight, or updating an ETA.

ETA/Port: Use the Edit button near the top of the details page.
Truck/Driver: Use the Remove icon to clear the old asset, then Quick Assign the new one.
Commodity: View the Shipment, then click Edit on the commodity section.

2 Sync with CBP

Once all changes are saved, click the Sync with CBP button at the top of the eManifest Details Page.

Amendment: If the change is minor, the status will change to "Transmitted".
Cancel/Resubmit: If the change is major (e.g., adding a shipment), the status will briefly flash "Cancelled" before returning to "Transmitted".

The Sync with CBP button applies all pending changes

3 Verify Acceptance

Wait for the status to return to Complete Manifest On File (Blue) or Complete Manifest and Entry Numbers On File (Green).

Moving Shipments Between Manifests

When you need to take a shipment off one manifest and move it to another, you must ensure CBP knows the shipment has been "detached" from the first trip.

Step 1: Detach from Old Manifest

1. Open the shipment on the original manifest. 2. Under the section Shipment Only Send to CBP, select Detach Shipment Message. 3. Wait for CBP to accept the detach message. 4. Click Detach in BorderConnect to remove it from the visual manifest.

Step 2: Attach to New Manifest

1. Open the new ACE Manifest. 2. Search for the detached shipment and click Select to add it. 3. Once added, click Sync with CBP on the new manifest. 4. BorderConnect will automatically transmit the required "Attach" and amendment messages.

Manual Cancellation

If a trip is completely aborted and you will not be crossing the border at all, you should manually cancel the manifest.

1. View the Manifest. 2. Click the Cancel Manifest button (usually found under "More Actions" or explicitly labeled at the top). 3. The status will update to Cancelled Manifest (Red Bar).

Best Practices

Tip	Benefit
Edit First, Sync Last	Make all your changes (Driver, Truck, ETA) at once before clicking Sync to reduce the number of transmissions sent to CBP.
Trust the Sync	Let the Sync button decide whether to amend or cancel. Manually cancelling a trip when you only meant to change a driver can cause confusion.
Detach Before Re-Attaching	Always send a "Detach" message before adding a shipment to a new trip to avoid "Duplicate Shipment" errors.
