''Failure to follow CBP's cargo description guidelines may result in delays at the border, rejection of goods or penality action''. When the user begins typing the description in the field, the system will check to see if it matches a previously entered ACE Commodity Description. If so it will come up to be selected,  which will automatically set the package type and weight unit used previously. Otherwise the description will be recorded for the next time.

Add/Edit Commodity for ACE Shipment Page

The interface for entering cargo descriptions, weights, and quantities for ACE shipments.

Overview

The Add/Edit Commodity for ACE Shipment Page is where users enter the specific cargo details for an ACE Shipment. Accurate commodity data is the core of any manifest declaration.

You can access this page by:

Tip: BorderConnect remembers your commodity descriptions. As you type a description, the system will suggest previously used entries, automatically filling in the Package Type and Weight Unit defaults you used last time.

Data Entry Fields

The following fields define the cargo being transported. Please refer to the legend at the bottom of the page to identify required fields.

Description of Goods

This is the most critical field for customs compliance.

  • Requirement: Must be a plain language description detailed enough to identify the cargo.
  • Limits: Up to 512 characters.
  • Compliance: Must adhere to CBP's list of acceptable cargo descriptions.
  • Warning: Vague descriptions (e.g., "Freight", "General Cargo") may result in border delays or penalties.

Weights and Quantities

Field Description
Quantity The number of packages (must be a whole number). Select the package type (e.g., Boxes, Barrels, Pallets) from the dropdown.
Weight The gross weight of the goods (must be a whole number). Select the unit (e.g., Pounds, Kilograms) from the dropdown.
Loaded On Indicates where the cargo is physically loaded. Defaults to the trailer (if one exists) or the truck. Use the dropdown to change if necessary.
Marks and Numbers Optional field to indicate any identifying marks or numbers on the packages themselves.

Saving and Navigation

Once data entry is complete, use the following buttons to save your work:

Save and Back to ACE eManifest Saves the commodity and returns you directly to the main ACE eManifest Details Page.
