🔖 This article is part of the BorderConnect U.S. In-Bond Manager Guide

Unique to BorderConnect, a U.S. In-Bond Status is a visual, color-coded indicator shown throughout the platform that allows users to instantly understand the current lifecycle stage of an in-bond shipment with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Color-coded U.S. In-Bond statuses displayed in BorderConnect

Statuses appear in:

Each status updates automatically when:

  • A QP In-Bond is transmitted to CBP
  • A CBP response is received through an In-Bond Status Query
  • Arrival, export, or diversion messages are accepted

These visual indicators eliminate guesswork and help users take immediate action when required.

Understanding the In-Bond Lifecycle

The table below shows how an in-bond typically progresses:

Stage What It Means Typical Next Step
Unknown Created but not sent to CBP Transmit QP In-Bond
On File Accepted by CBP Await arrival into U.S.
Enroute Authorized for movement Monitor until arrival
Arrived Reached bonded location Export if applicable
Exported or Concluded Bond closed No action needed

U.S. In-Bond Status Descriptions

Unknown

(One Purple Bar)

The QP In-Bond exists in BorderConnect but has not yet been transmitted to CBP.

Recommended action:

  • Complete all required fields
  • Click Send QP In-Bond from the Send to CBP menu on the QP In-Bond Details page

Not On File

(One Red Bar)

CBP has confirmed through a status query that no in-bond exists under this entry number.

Common causes:

  • The bond was never filed
  • A third party has not yet transmitted it

Recommended action:

  • File a QP In-Bond in BorderConnect
  • Or contact the party responsible for filing

On File

(Three Green Bars)

The in-bond has been accepted and is officially recorded in CBP systems.

This status typically appears after:

  • Successfully transmitting a QP In-Bond
  • Receiving confirmation through a status query

No action is required until physical movement occurs.

Enroute

(Four Blue Bars)

The shipment has entered the United States and has been authorized by CBP for in-bond movement.

This status usually follows:

  • Port of arrival processing
  • Status query confirmation

The in-bond is now moving toward its bonded destination.

Arrived

(Five Dark Green Bars)

The shipment has reached the bonded destination and CBP has accepted the electronic arrival message.

For Immediate Transportation (Type 61):

  • The bond is now closed
  • No further reporting is required

For other bond types:

  • Export or further processing may still be required

Exported

(Six Green Bars)

Common for Transportation and Exportation (Type 62) in-bonds.

This confirms that:

  • The shipment has left the bonded location
  • Export has been accepted by CBP

Once exported, the bond is closed and no further action is needed.

Concluded

(Six Green Bars)

Most often seen for Mexico-bound in-bonds.

In these cases:

  • The Type 62 bond converts to a Type 61 subsequent bond
  • Export messages may not apply

Using Check For Subsequent Bond confirms closure and updates the status to Concluded.

Once concluded, the in-bond is fully closed.

Rejected

(Two Brown Bars)

An error was returned by CBP during:

  • QP In-Bond transmission
  • In-Bond Status Query response

Details appear in the QP In-Bond History section.

Recommended action:

  • Review the reject message carefully
  • Correct the data and retransmit
  • Contact BorderConnect Support if clarification is needed
