Customs City, an example of a BorderConnect white-label eManifest Service Provider

This guide offers instructions on using BorderConnect as an eManifest Service Provider. Using BorderConnect as an eManifest service provider helps customs brokers and border consulting firms manage ACE and ACI eManifests for multiple highway carriers.[1] It is also possible to offer eManifest software with your own branding to self-filing carriers using BorderConnect's white-label eManifest portal.[1]

BorderConnect’s service provider page states that service providers can use BorderConnect’s white-label eManifest portal to create a seamless branded experience for their clients, and BorderConnect handles the setup after receiving branding guides and samples.[1] BorderConnect’s service provider training video explains that service providers can register through BorderConnect, offer eManifest software under their own brand using the white-label solution, and contact BorderConnect’s 24/7 sales and support team for help.[2]

Using BorderConnect as a service provider

Definition of eManifest Service Provider

An eManifest Service Provider is a company that files eManifest data with customs on behalf of multiple highway carriers. This can include customs brokers, border consulting firms, dispatch support companies, or other businesses that prepare and transmit ACE eManifests and ACI eManifests for carrier customers.

BorderConnect’s service provider guide covers registering, managing multiple carriers, using the white-label portal, and filing ACE and ACI eManifests as a service provider.[3]

Registering With BorderConnect as a Service Provider

If your company does not already have an account with BorderConnect, go to www.borderconnect.com and click Sign Up Now. When choosing your Account Type during registration, select eManifest Service Provider from the drop-down menu, then finish entering your company and user details.

After you verify the registration by email, a BorderConnect representative will follow up within 1-2 business days to discuss your options, including whether your company requires a white-label eManifest portal. BorderConnect’s service provider video explains that users can sign up at BorderConnect.com and complete the registration process, after which BorderConnect follows up within 1-2 business days.[2]

White-Label Portal

As a BorderConnect eManifest Service Provider, you can provide your customers with a branded eManifest portal. BorderConnect notes that service providers can offer eManifest software under their own brand using the white-label portal, while BorderConnect supplies the back-end eManifest software.[1][4]

Getting Started

After BorderConnect sets up your company as a service provider, BorderConnect can begin setting up the white-label portal.

To get started, BorderConnect needs your branding style guide, including:

  • brand colours;
  • company logo; and
  • the URL for your company's website.

For the white-label portal, the service provider provides branding guide and samples, and BorderConnect takes care of the rest of the setup.[1]

Advantages

Advantage Description
No development investment BorderConnect provides the eManifest platform, so a third-party company does not need to build its own eManifest portal.
Tailored to your company brand BorderConnect applies your branding and styling to the portal login page and user interface so the portal appears to belong to the service provider.

White-label branding can help service providers offer a consistent customer experience while still using BorderConnect’s ACE and ACI eManifest tools. BorderConnect’s history page notes that some third-party service providers have used white-label eManifest portals designed to match their branding and colour themes while using BorderConnect’s back-end software.[4]

BorderConnect API

BorderConnect's API provides a way to exchange eManifest-related data. This helps service providers and business software send and receive eManifest data from Canada Border Services Agency and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

All eManifest data is encoded as JSON (JavaScript Object Notation), a text-based data format. The connection to the BorderConnect API uses WebSockets, which are useful for interactive data exchange.

For more information, see the BorderConnect API Guide. BorderConnect describes its eManifest Developer API as a way to connect fleet management, dispatch, or other business software with BorderConnect ACE and ACI eManifest data.[5]

Adding New Companies

Register New Company menu option

As a BorderConnect eManifest service provider, you can add new companies that want to register with you. A service provider can add companies in two ways.

Registering a New Company

To register a new company, go to the top-right Account menu and click Register New Company. From the Register New Company page, enter the company details and user account credentials, then finish the registration.

Company Self-Registration

The second option is to have the company register through the external registration form provided on the service provider's white-label portal. The company enters its company and user details. Once the company is registered, the service provider follows up with them to activate the account.

Self-registration is useful when a service provider wants to direct customers to a branded sign-up page instead of creating each company manually. The service provider can then review the new company profile and help the customer complete setup for ACE, ACI, or both.

Managing Company Profiles

Changing Companies

Administration buttons and company switcher

Service providers can use the Change Company box at the top right of the screen to switch between companies. A company can be found by typing the company name, Carrier Code, or SCAC.

The company switcher can also search by truck unit number, driver name, and other account data.

Fax Service Listing

As a service provider, you can manage and view ACE or ACI eManifests for multiple companies in one location. The service provider administration section at the top right of the page allows you to switch between ACE Fax Service and ACI Fax Service using the provided buttons.

From the Fax Service listing page, you can view and manage eManifests for multiple companies that were created by you as a service provider. BorderConnect also offers an eManifest processing service for customers who provide shipment details for BorderConnect to process, and its processing workshop covers ACE and ACI fax forms, notifications, common mistakes, and registration.[6]

Managing Company Data

Trailer Details Page

The first step is to create profiles for any drivers, trucks, and trailers that may be crossing the border. Information in these profiles is used to complete mandatory fields on manifests. Entering profile information ahead of time can make it easier to create eManifests.

Refer to the individual sections for instructions on entering and maintaining:

BorderConnect’s ACI guide also recommends creating profiles for drivers, trucks, and trailers before filing ACI eManifests because those profiles are used in trip and shipment workflows.[7]
